THIBODAUX — The winner of a raffle at Nicholls State University will get to blow up the Huey P. Long Hall on Nov. 22.

Raffle tickets went on sale Monday at the university, which is removing four residence buildings and planning to replace them with “top-of-the line student housing.”

Money from the sale of the raffle tickets will be used to create a Huey P. Long Endowed Memorial Scholarship to be awarded to a student living in on-campus housing.

Mike Davis, assistant vice president for administration, said the new resident buildings will “offer 21st century amenities and services to our students.

“While we are a bit wistful at seeing these older facilities disappear, we are overjoyed about the prospects for our current and future students to experience the very best on-campus living environments available at any college or university in our state — or the nation,” Davis said.

The demolition of the hall has been dubbed, “Bringing Down the House.” The explosion, set for 11 a.m., will occur before the university’s 1 p.m. football game against Southeastern Louisiana University.

Raffle tickets can be purchased by calling one of these 985 area code numbers; 448-4111, 448-4792, 448-4009 and 448-4005.
