VILLE PLATTE — Bonding attorney Lonnie Bewley told the Evangeline Parish Police Jury on Monday that Cameron International aims to have its multimillion-dollar expansion project on line by the end of 2009.

The Police Jury then gave a boost to one of its major parish employers by passing a resolution that will have the parish and Industrial District No. 1 issue up to $13 million in Industrial Revenue bonds.

The action rescinded a previously approved issuance of $6 million.

The state will also contribute more than $7 million to the major expansion of Cameron’s Valve manufacturing facility at the Ward 1 Industrial Park near Ville Platte.

The plans now will be forwarded to the state Bond Commission for approval.

Bewley said the company wants to go to bid by December and have the facility on line by the end of 2009.

The firm is expected to hire an additional 100 workers once the work is complete.

The project includes construction of a 125,000-square-foot storage building.

There was some discussion whether the project will go to public or private bidding because Cameron is picking up most of the cost of the project.

The Police Jury is planning to call a special meeting in the next few weeks to discuss the bidding issue and tax exemptions for Cameron

Earlier in the meeting, the jury endorsed the Cameron expansion so the company could receive tax breaks under the enterprise zone program. Cameron could realize upward of $400,000 in tax breaks over a 10 to 15 year period.

In other business, the jury took under advisement a claim by Grayson Taylor, who lives in the Howard Dupre subdivision, about sewerage backing up in his home during the recent hurricanes.

The family is asking the parish to reimburse them for $2,000 in expenses for clean-up work.
