Woman dies after driving into ditch
HOUMA — A Houma woman died Sunday morning after she drove her car off the road into a ditch and hit a culvert, which caused her car to roll over, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police Troop C.
Deidre Riggs, 36, was driving a 1997 Honda Civic south on La. 57 at American Boulevard near the Ashland North subdivision around 2 a.m. when she lost control of her car while driving in a curve in the road, Troop C spokesman Joseph Piglia said in the news release.
Riggs veered off the road to the right and then over corrected and crossed La. 57 before she left the road and drove into the ditch, he said.
Riggs, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and died at the scene of the crash, Piglia said.
