Deaf school opening timetable planned
State Superintendent Paul Pastorek plans to release a tentative schedule for reopening the Louisiana School for the Deaf early next week, a news release says.
Pastorek has asked parents to not make permanent arrangements for their children’s education until next week, after they have seen the schedule, department spokeswoman René Greer says in the release.
While classes are suspended, parents are asked to contact the deaf school at (225) 757-3310 to arrange for educational services while classes are suspended. School staff will tap instructors to serve students temporarily based on their Individualized Education Plans, Greer said.
Pastorek suspended operations at the deaf school Wednesday after repeated incidents of sexual misconduct there indicated that the school was not as safe as other schools.
