Authorities released the identity Thursday of a man who was shot and killed Wednesday after deputies allegedly saw him stabbing his girlfriend in a parked car in Iberia Parish.
Sheriff Louis Ackal identified the man as Ryan Charles Walker, 32, of New Iberia.
Ackal also released the names of the four deputies who were involved in the shooting.
He said they are: Sgt. Jeremy Hatley, who fired the shots; Lt. Greg Pete; Sgt. Robert Burns; and deputy Steve Granger.
Ackal also corrected information released Wednesday and said the deputies were not placed on administrative leave as had been reported.
All were interviewed by Louisiana State Police and cleared to return to work.
Ackal said each was given the option of taking a few days off or returning to work. All four chose to return to work.
Louisiana State Police is conducting an investigation into the shooting, as is customary in officer-involved shootings.
Ackal commended the officers for having their microphones on during the situation, which he said allowed the department to record the events leading up to the shooting.
A copy of that tape has been turned over to State Police to aid in their investigation, he said.
Ackal also provided more information into the shooting itself.
Shortly after 2 p.m., Ackal said, an individual drove up and witnessed a man stabbing a woman outside of a parked vehicle on Sugar Oaks Road in front of the Sugar Oaks Golf and Country Club.
The woman, whose name was not released, was bleeding and, when the witness asked if he could help her, Ackal said, the man threatened him and told him to leave.
