SBA disaster loan office to open in New Roads
NEW ROADS — The Disaster Recovery Center in New Roads is being switched into a U.S. Small Business Administration disaster loan center on Thursday.
The recovery center which was opened in the Scott Civic Center shortly after Hurricane Gustav struck Louisiana Sept. 1, will cease operations at 6 p.m. today.
The SBA loan center will open in the same location Thursday. Its hours of operation will be from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekdays until further notice, according to a news release from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The SBA offers low-interest federal disaster loans to homeowners, renters, businesses and private and nonprofit organizations to repair or replace property damaged by natural disasters.
Disaster loans of up to $200,000 are available to homeowners to repair or replace real estate with an additional $40,000 available to replace personal property.
Businesses and nonprofits are eligible to borrow up to $2,000,000.
“At this stage of the recovery process, the emphasis for assistance is to meet the long-term needs of victims. We believe the transition … will better meet the current needs of Pointe Coupee Parish residents and businesses,” Michael Ricks, district director of the state SBA office, said in the news release.
For residents affected by Hurricane Gustav, the filing deadline to return applications for property damage is Nov. 3.
To be considered for disaster assistance, residents are asked to register with FEMA by calling (800) 621-3362. For more information about SBA disaster assistance, phone the SBA customer service center at (800) 659-2955.
