A homemaker and resident of Baton Rouge, she died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Lane Regional Medical Center, Zachary. She was 82 and a native of Newfoundland. A senior at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, he died on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in a car accident. He was 22 and a 2005 graduate of Centreville Academy, where he lettered in football three years. He was an Eagle Scout with Troop 51 in Jackson. He was an employee of Mike’s Audio in Baton Rouge. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, surrounded by her family. A resident of Denham Springs and a native of Eddiston, Miss., she is survived by her devoted husband, Elmo Ray Averett, of Denham Springs. They were to be married 50 years on Feb. 6, 2009. She earned degrees from Baton Rouge Business College and Denham Springs Beauty College, and retired as a secretary with the state of Louisiana and the Veterans Administration. Earline was deeply devoted to the Lord and was honored to serve as past secretary clerk of Walker Baptist Church and pianist of Eden Baptist Church for many years. She was the author of her autobiography and first book, “Striking Courage,” and she enjoyed being a member of the 4-H Club, high school cheerleader, soloist, girl’s ensemble, piano teacher. She was involved in many other activities until her battle with diabetes and congestive heart failure. She is also survived by her five children and their spouses, Anita Rae Wingard, Barbara Ann and Danny Mizell, William Ellis “Billy” Averett, Sherry Dale and Steve Bronston and Lucy and Thomas Pace; brothers and sisters-in-law, Johnnie and Shirley Foster, Charles Foster, the Rev. Alton and Jimmie Ann Foster; sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Frank Sauciunas; eight grandchildren, Nicholas Rousseau, Joseph Rousseau, Denver Mizell, Jessie Wingard, Derek Mizell, Jacob Bronston, Raegan Pace and Cassie Bronston; three great-grandchildren, Caleb McNabb, and twins, Destiny and Nevaeh Hull; numerous other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Boyd, Jerry Willie ‘Taw Taw’
Jerry Boyd was a resident of Zachary and born in Pricedale, Miss., on Aug. 15, 1943. He passed away on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He was a retired locomotive engineer from Illinois Central Railroad, former mayor of Slaughter and president of the Pointe Coupee South Homeowners Association. He was married to his best friend and love of his life, Linda S. Boyd, for 45 years. They enjoyed traveling together and participating in civic organizations. Most of all, they truly loved their family and enjoyed participating in activities with their church family at Olive Branch Baptist Church in Slaughter. He was an avid woodworker and gardener and enjoyed participating in his grandchildren’s sports activities. He also organized the Slaughter softball park. He is survived by his wife, Linda S. Eugene Jack Callahan, a native of Maringouin and a resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Jack served and defended his country in the U.S. Army. He was a district commercial supervisor for South Central Bell with 31 years of service. After retirement, he followed his passion for sales with a 20-year career as a Realtor with C.J. Brown. James W. “Jimmy” Jones Sr., 68, a native of St. Landry Parish and a previous resident of Grand Prairie, passed away at his home in Holden on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008. Jimmy was the owner of Airline Diesel Co. in Baton Rouge and loved to camp, travel and fish in his spare time. He served in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Snyder, Woodrow Wilson
A retired Ethyl Corp. employee with 35 years of service and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, Woodrow W. Snyder was born on Nov. 3, 1918, in Baywood. He died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Flannery Oaks Guest House. He was 89 and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served on the USS Malabar (AF-37) as a motor machinist’s mate. Thrower, Corine Seale
Funeral service for Mrs. Corine Seale Thrower, 89, of Bastrop, and formerly of Slaughter, will be held at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at 9 a.m., with the Rev. Jim Ingram officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, near Zachary, on Thursday from 3 p.m. until graveside service at the church cemetery at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Jerry Potts officiating. Corine Seale Thrower was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Felecia, Texas, the only child of George Edward and Lucy Wilson Seale. She died Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, at the LeGrand Health Care Center, Bastrop. Corine received her bachelor’s degree in music and a minor in education from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. Corine taught school for more than 35 years and also taught piano for more than 40 years. She was married to the Rev. Seth Thrower for 30 years. Corine was a full-time teacher in St. Landry Parish until 1983. She moved to Bastrop where she lived until 2001 with her son, Tom, before moving to Pride to be near her daughter. While in Pride, Corine was a member of the Sandy Creek Baptist Church. In 2006, she returned to Bastrop, where she resided at the LeGrand Health Care Center and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bastrop. Corine was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution for more than 40 years, member and past regent of the Abram Morehouse Chapter of the DAR, member of the Pointe Coupee Chapter in New Roads and the John James Audubon Chapter in Baton Rouge. Corine held membership in the Colonel John Milton Sandidge Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Family History Club of Bastrop, Scottish Society of Northeast Louisiana, Martha Randolph Chapter of the 17th Century Colonial Dames, and was a charter member and past president of the Feliciana Chapter of the 17th Century Colonial Dames. She was looking forward to becoming a charter member of the Benton’s Bell Battery Chapter of the United Daughters of Confederacy in Monroe. Corine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, the Rev. Seth Joseph Thrower; and a great-great-grandchild. Survived by her daughter, Patricia Bringol and husband Ryland “Ron” Bringol, of Slaughter; two sons, Wilson Miles Thrower, of Ponchatoula, and Tom Thrower and wife Monica Thrower, of Bastrop; six grandchildren, Bridget Forbes, Sherrie Broussard, Angela Parent, Troy Thrower, Michael Thrower and Lauren Corine Thrower; 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Underwood, Clifford Rembert
A longtime resident of Denham Springs, he passed away on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at his home at age 85. He was born and raised in Watson. As a teenager, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and served aboard the USS Carson City PF-50. He retired from Allied Chemical as a construction supervisor with 31 years of service. He was also a devoted member of First United Methodist Church, Denham Springs. He was married for 51 years to the late Juanita Jane Facundus Underwood. He is survived by three sons and their wives, Rodney and Karen Glaudi Underwood, David Rembert and Jennifer Benton Underwood and Clifford Neal and Katie Mathews Underwood; four grandchildren, Ragan, Adam Patrick, Sarah Jane and Andrew Clarence Underwood; sister, Virginia U. Meinke; brother, C. Hewitt Underwood Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Bobbie A. Underwood, Ferne M. Underwood and Virginia Facundus; and brother-in-law, Ira “Bo” Hill. In addition to his late wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Eulalia Lillian Durham and Clarence H. Underwood Sr.; eldest grandson, Evan Jeoffrey Underwood; brothers, James Z. and Scott Underwood; and sisters, Gertrude U. Devall and Mary U. Landry. “Paw Paw” was a kind, generous, devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed.
