Pumping station cover to be finished by June
GONZALES — The East Ascension Drainage Board was told Monday the protection cover for the Marvin Braud Pumping Station will be completed by June.
The cover is designed to protect workers and pumps during adverse weather conditions such as hurricanes, Drainage Manager Bill Roux said.
Henry Picard of Burk-Kleinpeter Inc. asked for approval of final plans for the cover and said bids for construction will be let in mid-November.

The commission also said it will consider entering into an intergovernmental agreement to have the same firm the parish government is using to haul debris from Hurricane Gustav from parish waterways.

In other business, the commission:
- Approved purchase of an aluminum box culvert for the Mire Road bridge replacement at a cost not to exceed $116,457.
- Agreed to pay $3,000 to Platipus Earth Anchoring Systems for designing a method of stabilizing the banks of Muddy Creek at Manchac Harbor subdivision.
- Authorized the purchase of a digging bucket for the Drainage Department at a cost not to exceed $12,000.
- Approved task order contracts with nine trucking firms to haul away spoil material dug out of major waterway channels by the Drainage Department. The total cost is not to exceed $200,000.
- Took under advisement a recommendation from Jake Lambert of Glenn Shaheen and Associates to widen the top bank of the Bert Allen Ditch to 25 feet to prevent overtopping during a storm event.
The commission also said it will consider entering into an intergovernmental agreement to have the same firm the parish government is using to haul debris from Hurricane Gustav from parish waterways.
