Clayton Lee Murphy Jr., 30, was arrested Sunday for fatally stabbing his 2- and 8-year-old sons, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said Monday.

The incident occurred at 6:48 p.m. Sunday in Murphy’s Bluebonnet Towers apartment, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Murphy told detectives he killed his sons to get back at his estranged wife, Renata, according to court records.

The boys were Tayshaun, 2, and Juwan, 8.

A 30-year-old man allegedly attacked and injured his two young sons Sunday night in the family’s apartment in the Bluebonnet Towers, on the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries campus, authorities said.

The children’s mother called the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office from Houston to say the father of her children was threatening to hurt them, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said.

Deputies arrived at 7410 Bluebonnet Towers around 7 p.m. and found the man had barricaded the door of his third-floor apartment with a big-screen TV, Hicks said.

Deputies forced entry to the apartment and found the man, whom Hicks declined to identify, inside with his children, Hicks said.

Authorities did not release the extent of the children’s injuries or how they were injured late Sunday, and their father remained in Sheriff’s Office custody, she said.

An investigator with the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office arrived around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Adam Brown, manager of the complex between Interstate 10 and Perkins Road, said the apartments can be rented to anyone, not just members of Jimmy Swaggart Ministries.
