BR woman dies in I-10 rollover
Sarita Hayes, 26, of Baton Rouge, a passenger who was not wearing her seat belt, was ejected from the car and pronounced dead at the scene, said State Police, who responded the wreck at about 5:30 a.m.
Hayes was the right rear passenger in a 2000 Nissan Altima driven by Teriyaki Conner, 21, of Baton Rouge, State Police said.
Conner was driving the Nissan Altima westbound on I-10 when her vehicle exited the roadway to the left and entered the median while rotating counter-clockwise, State Police Sgt. Markus Smith said.
Once in the median, the Nissan overturned and came to rest partially in the left eastbound travel lane and partially on the shoulder, Smith said.
Conner and her front seat passenger, Robin Palms, 22 of Baton Rouge, were both wearing their seat belts and suffered minor to moderate injuries during the crash, Smith said. Palms was transported to River Parishes Hospital, he said.
The left rear seat passenger, Jeda McGlothan, 18, of Baton Rouge, was not wearing her seat belt and suffered moderate injuries, Smith said. Both Conner and McGlothan were transported to St. James Hospital, he said.
Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash; however, blood was taken from the driver and will be submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
