Jackson driver hits tree, dies in crash

ZACHARY — A 22-year-old Jackson man was killed Saturday night when his car ran off La. 19, hit a tree and caught fire, Louisiana State Police said. Tyler Anders, of Jackson, was southbound on La. 19, north of Spur Lane, when he lost control of the 2001 Lexus RX3s, State Police spokesman Sgt. Markus Smith said.
A Zachary police officer who responded to the crash was able to pull Anders and his passenger, Jeremiah Willis, 22, of St. Francisville, from the car, Smith said.
Anders was pronounced dead at the scene, Smith said. Willis was taken by Emergency Medical Services to a hospital with serious injuries, he said.
Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, Smith said.
