The Southern University Board of Supervisors is back to its full 16 members after Gov. Bobby Jindal filled the last two vacancies Tuesday.

The two newest members are former board member Walter Guidry of Lake Charles and lawyer Patrick Jefferson of Arcadia.

Guidry, a retired petroleum engineer, was not re-appointed last year by former Gov. Kathleen Blanco.

Guidry was one of just two board members who opposed the hiring of Southern University System President Ralph Slaughter in 2006.

Former Southern board Chairman Johnny Anderson was Blanco’s assistant chief of staff when Blanco had Guidry replaced.

Jefferson is a lawyer with the Newell Law Firm. He is a member of the Bienville Parish Police Jury.

The Southern board lost four members this summer when Jindal did not put four members appointed by Blanco  up for Senate confirmation during the legislative session.

Blanco had made the appointments in the waning months of her administration.

In July, Jindal appointed Patrick Bell of Thibodaux, who also was a former board member, and Patrick Magee of Lafayette.
