Deputies book two in children’s beating
DENHAM SPRINGS — Deputies arrested a Denham Springs couple after the man allegedly beat his three step-children with a metal-studded belt, Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies reported Wednesday.
Deputies were called to a hospital Friday to investigate possible child abuse when they found the three children, ages 4, 7 and 8, with extensive bruising on their legs, buttocks and, on one child, lower back, deputies said in a written statement.
The step-father, Matthew Courtney Archibald, allegedly beat them because they tried to run away from home, deputies said.
Deputies arrested the victims’ mother, Elizebeth Archibald, because she allegedly lied to authorities by telling them she had beaten the children, deputies said.
Matthew Archibald, 24, 29546 E. Karen St., Denham Springs, was arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail on three counts of aggravated battery, deputies said.
His bond is set at $50,000.
Elizebeth Archibald, 25, same address, was booked on three counts of cruelty to a juvenile and three counts of accessory after the fact to aggravated battery, deputies said.
Her bond is set at $75,000.
The Louisiana Office of Community Services placed the children in foster care, deputies said.
