Traffic stop nets drugstore suspect
CUT OFF — Sheriff’s detectives who stopped a speeding Cut Off motorist on Sunday recovered from his vehicle four bottles of prescription medicine stolen in a drugstore burglary, the Lafourche Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.
The deputies also found clothing in the vehicle identified as having been worn by the burglar who entered Pitre’s Pharmacy, Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported.
Thirteen minutes before deputies intercepted Clay Kiffe, 29, 420 Sandros, on La. 1 at West 202 Street in Cut Off for speeding, the Sheriff’s Office sent out a bulletin naming Kiffe as a suspect in the Pitre’s Pharmacy burglary, Webre said.
Video surveillance had identified Kiffe not only as the burglar but as a regular customer of the store, Webre stated.
The video shows Kiffe ramming the front door of Pitre’s with a vehicle and then jumping the counter to steal four bottles of medication, according to Webre’s news release.
The store manager told detectives that two bottles of hydrocodone and two bottles of Diazepam, totaling about $1,350 in value, were taken.
Detectives conducted a recorded interview in which Kiffe confessed, Webre reported.
Kiffe was arrested and booked with simple burglary of a pharmacy and taken to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. His bond was set at $5,000.
