Candidate issued summons for battery
A Republican candidate for the District 11 Metro Council seat was issued a misdemeanor summons Sept. 8 on a count of simple battery, police said.
Scott Lemoine allegedly struck a man in the face with a newspaper about 10:45 a.m. at 9111 Interline Ave., said Sgt. Don Kelly, a police spokesman.
The incident occurred after Lemoine and the man argued about some work Lemoine did on the man’s taxes, Kelly said.
Lemoine, 39, 10121 Oakline Drive, said the man was in his face and would not leave his place of business, Kelly said.
The officer on scene said it appeared the man was trying to leave and Lemoine was confronting him, Kelly said.
Man, 18, arrested in 72nd St. shooting
Police arrested an 18-year-old man Sunday for allegedly trying to kill a man during a shootout on 72nd Street.
Christopher Bell is accused of firing shots at the man at 11:45 p.m. after they argued over a dice game, said Cpl. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
The incident occurred at 2886 72nd St. about the same time Lotoya Wilson was shot and killed, McKneely said.
Police believe Wilson was an innocent bystander to the shootout, he said. Police don’t know yet whose bullet hit her, McKneely said.
Bell, 2830 74th Ave., was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of attempted second-degree murder.
Police book man in armed robbery
Police arrested a 27-year-old man Thursday for allegedly robbing a man at gunpoint in the 1100 block of 47th Street, an arrest warrant says.
George Knox is accused of approaching his victim about 2 p.m., showing him a handgun and demanding he “give up his wallet,” an arrest warrant says.
The man gave Knox his wallet, which contained $1,100, the warrant says. No one was injured during the incident.
