No power in Assumption for 4-6 weeks
The Assumption Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness advises that power will not be restored in that area for at least 4-6 weeks.
Parish officials said if residents are able to make other living arrangements outside of Assumption Parish, they should do so.
"Concerns exist regarding existing infrastructure due to loss of power not being able to be restored to serve the population," a press release said. "basic essentials such as food, water and fuel will become a problem. Facilities will not be available to proved these additional commodities for approximately 4-6 weeks."
All Assumption Parish schools will be closed until further notice.
A strict curfew will be enacted at 8 p.m. nightly and will be strongly adhered to by law enforcement. The Louisiana Sheriff's Association and National Guard will be sending additional law enforcement into Assumption Parish to assist with patrolling and security.
