Cancellations and closures on Tues., Sept. 1

SCHOOLS CLOSING TUESDAY:
  • Livingston, Ascension, Assumption, Lafourche, St. James, St. Mary, Tangipahoa and St. Tammany parishes.
  • East Baton Rouge Parish and St. Tammany Parish schools closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
  • In Thibodaux, only emergency personnel at Nicholls State University, including university police, will remain on campus. In Baton Rouge, LSU, the LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, the LSU Agricultural Center, Our Lady of the Lake College, and Southern University.
  • In New Orleans, Tulane University, Loyola University and Xavier University.
  • The University of Louisiana at Lafayette is closed Tuesday.
  • LSU Eunice closed Tuesday
OTHER CLOSURES INCLUDE:
  • All locations of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library close today at 4 p.m.
  • All offices in the U.S. District Courthouse in Baton Rouge are closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • The 22nd Judicial Court (St. Tammany and Washington Parishes)  will be closed Tuesday.
  • Courthouses in Livingston, Tangipahoa and St. Helena parishes are closed Monday and Tuesday. Jury duty is canceled Wednesday in Livingston and Tangipahoa parishes.
  • The St. Tammany Parish Dept. of Animal Services Shelter will be closed until further notice.
  • The LSUHSC Dental Clinic on GSRI Road on the LSU South Campus is closed Monday and Tuesday.
  • Post offices are closed today in St. James, St. John, St. Bernard, Plaquemines and St. Charles parishes and in Grand Isle.
CANCELLATIONS AND POSTPONEMENTS INCLUDE:
  • The Greater Baton Rouge AFL-CIO Annual Labor Day Picnic and Parade scheduled for Monday in Baker has been postponed.
  • The Baton Rouge Concert Band’s Labor Day concert.
  • The St. Tammany Parish Zoning Commission and Board of Adjustment meeting scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled.
  • The Grand Isle Redfish Rodeo, originally scheduled today through Monday at Bridge Side Marina, is postponed.
  • The West Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce’s Meet the Candidates forum scheduled Thursday is postponed.
  • Pointe Coupee Electric Membership Corp.’s 70th anniversary celebration scheduled Thursday is postponed.
  • The Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in Morgan City is canceled.
  • U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will close its New Orleans office at 2424 Edenborn Ave. in Metairie on Tuesday.
  • The New Orleans Museum of Art is closed. The Museum will not resume regular public hours until after Gustav has passed through southeastern Louisiana.
  • Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino in Opelousas canceled the racing programs set for today and Monday. There are no plans to make up the canceled program.
  • Valero has decided to begin the shutdown process and evacuation of its St. Charles refinery because of Hurricane Gustav. The company’s Port Arthur, Texas City and Houston refineries are operating at reduced rates, and the company will make decisions on whether to take further steps at Port Arthur, according to Bill Day, Valero media relations director.
