Albany man held on drugs, firearms counts
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Tri-Parish Narcotics Task Force arrested an Albany man in an investigation of drug and firearms violations, the Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.
Deputies booked Perry Bennett, 43, 30730 Skinner Lane, after serving a search warrant at his residence, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.
During the search, authorities found “crack” cocaine, a “baggie” of marijuana, a .22-caliber rifle with an obliterated serial number, a .410-gauge shotgun and more than $1,300 in cash, the release says.
Since the area has been the scene of violent drug-related activities in the past, the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team secured the residence prior to the search, deputies said.
Deputies booked Bennett on counts of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of an unidentifiable firearm and possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.
Bennett remained in the Livingston Parish Detention Center under a $250,000 bond Thursday afternoon, deputies said.
