Nicholls’ duo to perform at Kennedy Center
THIBODAUX — The Alexander-Soares Duo of Nicholls State University is scheduled to perform tonight at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
Violinist James Alexander, an adjunct instructor of music at the university, and pianist Luciana Soares, an assistant professor of music, are scheduled to take the stage 5 p.m. to perform works by Leopoldo Miguez, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Liduino Pitombeira.
“It is an honor for Nicholls when any faculty member presents on a national scale,” said Carol Britt, director of the School of Fine Arts at Nicholls.
The Alexander-Soares violin and piano duo, formed in 2005, has performed in several venues in Brazil; at the University of Akron and Baldwin-Wallace College in Ohio; and various other locations in Louisiana and Mississippi.
Alexander is a former principal of the Southwest German and St. Gallen, Switzerland, symphony orchestras. He has performed as a soloist and given master classes throughout Europe, Brazil and the U.S.
Soares has received many awards in national competitions in her native Brazil and appears frequently as both a soloist and collaborative pianist at concert halls throughout Brazil and the United States.
