Firefighters gather for conference
Firefighters from across the state will be congregating in Baton Rouge today through Saturday at the 103rd annual conference of the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association.
Organized with the assistance of the St. George and Brusly Fire Departments, conference events will take place at the Sheraton Baton Rouge Conference Center, 102 France St., said Eldon Ledoux, spokesman for the St. George Fire Department.
This year, Thomas J. Cassisa of the St. George Fire Protection District, is the association’s president, and the conference is typically held near the president’s fire department, Ledoux said.
Livingston meth raid nets 2 suspects
DENHAM SPRINGS — Narcotics agents arrested two people at their residence and put a 6-year-old child into protective custody after raiding a methamphetamine lab inside a Livingston Parish home, sheriff’s deputies said.
Agents from the Sheriff’s Office and the Tri-Parish Narcotics Task Force on Tuesday night found processed methamphetamine in the residence and the chemicals used to manufacture them in what was the agents’ 30th methamphetamine lab bust in Livingston Parish in less than a year, according to a statement deputies issued Wednesday.
Waylon C. James and Jennifer D. Lott, both 34 and of 9324 Randall Drive, Denham Springs, were booked on single counts of operation/creation of a methamphetamine lab, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamines, possession of drug paraphernalia and cruelty to a juvenile, deputies said.
Police: Brother threatens victim
The brother of one of four men arrested in a drug-related armed robbery was booked Tuesday after he allegedly forced the victim to go with him to an attorney’s office to sign an affidavit requesting charges be dropped against his brother.
Malcolm Jackson, 36, whose brother, Meshack Riley, was arrested Sunday on a count of armed robbery, is accused of showing up at the victim’s residence and threatening to “touch” him — street slang the victim understood to mean kill — unless the victim went with him to the attorney’s office and signed the affidavit, the arrest warrant shows.
They went to the office, where the victim signed the affidavit. The victim later notified police, the warrant says.
Jackson later told officers the victim had contacted him, told him his brother had nothing to do with the robbery and offered to sign the affidavit in exchange for $500, the warrant says. Jackson told police he agreed to pay the victim but never threatened him.
Jackson, 36, 935 Monet Drive, was booked into Parish Prison on counts of simple kidnapping and obstruction of justice, booking records show.
