Brusly councilwoman withdraws candidacy
Six candidates had filed for the five at-large seats on the council, but with Perrault’s withdrawal, the remaining five are elected without opposition.
Perrault had been one of four candidates seeking re-election, along with Shane Andre, Joanne Bourgeois and Chris “Fish” Kershaw. They were joined in qualifying for the primary by James Hebert and Thomas Olinde.
Perrault wrote a letter to Mayor Joey Normand saying she had spoken with Hebert and Olinde, and felt “very comfortable withdrawing my name.”
Perrault said she needs “a break from politics for a few years” to focus on her business, Perrault’s trucking. She said an increased devotion to business duty could have detracted from her work on the council.
Perrault, who had served two four-year terms on the council, said she hoped to fill an appointive role in the future after a mandated two-year hiatus.
Normand said he was disappointed Perrault would not be on the new council, but agreed he, too, is comfortable with newcomers Hebert and Olinde.
“You should be proud of your service,” Normand wrote to Perrault. “I am proud to have served with you.”
