Morning fire hits    house on Elliot Road
An early morning fire Thursday caused major damage to portions of an unoccupied home at 10044 Elliot Road, a St. George Fire Protection District spokesman said.

No one was injured in the incident, Eldon LeDoux said.

Firefighters found flames shooting from a front window when they arrived at the scene shortly after 2:49 a.m., LeDoux said.

It took firefighters 20 minutes to extinguish the flames, which gutted one bedroom and damaged part of the roof, LeDoux said.

The fire started near an electrical power strip in the front bedroom, he said. Whether the strip was overloaded or damaged is unknown.

Man, 21, arrested    in armed robbery
A 21-year-old man landed in jail Monday in the April 25 armed robbery in which the victim was bashed on the head with a gun and stabbed three times before the assailants stole his wallet.

Wearing bandanas over their faces, Jake Lamond Denham and Brandon Jamal Turner, 24, approached the victim at the Mirage Villa Apartments parking lot, 9895 Florida Blvd., at 1:53 a.m. and demanded money, an arrest warrant shows.

When the victim refused, Turner struck him on the head with a gun, knocking him down and causing his prosthetic leg to fall off, the warrant shows.

While Turner grabbed the man’s wallet, Denham stabbed the man in the chest, shoulder and leg, the warrant shows.

Denham, 9895 Florida Blvd., was booked into Parish Prison on one count each of armed robbery and attempted first-degree murder.

Turner was booked on the same counts in May.

4th suspect arrested in attempted murder
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested the driver of a vehicle who on July 6 allegedly blocked an intersection so three other men could open fire on a Hummer.

Christopher O’Neal Johnson, 25, was booked Wednesday into Parish Prison on a count of principal to attempted first-degree murder.
