Covington lawmaker focus of recall effort
Another legislator has become the subject of a recall petition, the Secretary of State’s Office reported Wednesday.
State Rep. John Schroder, R-Covington, became the seventh legislator targeted for recall in recent weeks — most of the efforts prompted by votes to double their pay.
Several of the recall drives ended with Gov. Bobby Jindal’s veto of the pay raise bill.
But some recall efforts, such as those against state Rep. Franklin Foil, R-Baton Rouge, and state Rep. Stephen Pugh, R-Ponchatoula, remain active.
The Schroder recall effort chairman is Roy St. Paul of Mandeville. A telephone message left on a home answering machine was not returned.
Schroder did not respond to an interview request placed through his legislative office.
Schroder represents House District 77. It has 37,362 active voters. In order to force a recall election at least one-third of those voters would have to sign a petition in the next 180 days.
