New Iberia murder suspect caught in Texas
LAFAYETTE — A 22-year-old man wanted for the second-degree murder of a New Iberia teenager Saturday morning was arrested Friday in Houston, an official said.
Cpl. Randal Leger said U.S. Marshals arrested Wilfred Vangure about 11 a.m. without incident.
Vangure of New Iberia allegedly shot and killed Paxton Simon, 19, in a parking lot outside of the Loose Caboose in the 200 block of McKinley Street.
The two men were arguing in another local nightclub before they met in the parking lot sometime between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m.
Vangure allegedly shot Simon in the upper torso with a handgun. Simon later died from his injuries.
Police had been looking for Vangure ever since.
Leger said Vangure is awaiting extradition to Lafayette.
He did not have additional details about Vangure’s arrest in Houston.
Leger said detectives are still asking for witnesses with any information to step forward.
