Man kills self in street after shooting his child’s mother
KENTWOOD — A 28-year-old man shot and wounded the mother of his child before turning the shotgun on himself Saturday as a Kentwood police officer begged him not to, Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies said Monday.
Kentwood police Lt. Greg Newton shouted, “No, no, no,” leaving his vehicle just moments before Michael Dwayne Davis, 73100 Hookfin Road, Kentwood, fatally shot himself in the head while lying in the street shortly after 2:22 a.m. Saturday, deputies said in a statement.
Deputies later found Irma Taylor, 28, who lived with Davis and with whom she had a child, sitting on a couch inside the residence, deputies said.
She had been hit in the shoulder by a shotgun blast.
The Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office declared Davis dead at the scene, coroner’s officials said.
Taylor was taken to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., and was reported in stable condition Saturday, deputies said.
