Fight ends in shooting fatality
LAFAYETTE — Police are searching for a 22-year-old New Iberia man wanted for the shooting death of a New Iberia teen outside of a bar early Saturday morning, authorities said Monday.
Wilfred Vangure is facing a second-degree murder charge for the death of Paxton Simon, 19, also of New Iberia, said Cpl. Randal Leger, a spokesman for the Lafayette Police Department.
Leger said the shooting occurred between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. in a parking lot outside of the Loose Caboose in the 200 block of McKinley Street.
Leger said the two men were arguing in another local nightclub before the shooting.
Minutes later, the two met in the parking lot behind the Loose Caboose and continued their fight, police said.
At some point, Vangure allegedly shot Simon in the upper torso with a handgun.
Simon died at a local hospital.
Vangure left the scene, police said. He was identified as the shooter later that morning.
Leger said police do not yet know what the two were arguing about before the shooting.
Leger said there were witnesses to the shooting, but the problem is getting them to come forward and cooperate with police.
Most of them left the scene before police arrived, Leger said.
No further details were available.
