Suspect arrested in May robbery case
A 26-year-old Baton Rouge man accused of robbing two people at gunpoint at an apartment complex parking lot was arrested Thursday.
Terrance Brown, 26, is accused of robbing the two victims at The Spanish Oaks Apartments, 4430 Hatcher Ave., about 11 p.m. May 8, an arrest warrant says. Brown allegedly took a woman’s purse and a man’s wallet.
Brown was spotted about four hours after the robbery and fit the physical and clothing descriptions given by the witnesses, the warrant says. He was later picked out of a photographic lineup by both witnesses.
Brown, 771 N. 46th St., was booked into Parish Prison on a count of armed robbery, booking records show. Bond was set at $75,000.
Authorities book 7 on DWI counts
Authorities arrested at least seven people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 3 p.m. Thursday and 3 p.m. Friday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
A DWI checkpoint conducted by two law enforcement agencies in Ascension Parish late Thursday netted 12 arrests for driving while intoxicated.
Louisiana State Police Troop A and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted the checkpoint from 10 p.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. Friday on La. 42 east of Airline Highway, State Police spokesman Trooper Johnnie Brown said.
The agencies screened 476 vehicles, administered 20 field sobriety tests, and arrested 12 people for DWI, Brown said. Six arrests were also made for possession of drugs.
House fire kills one in New Iberia
NEW IBERIA — One person was killed and another injured in a house fire in New Iberia.
Two people were in the home when the blaze started early Friday. A neighbor pulled one to safety through a window. That person was being treated at a local hospital.
The call came in at 3:25 a.m. and the New Iberia Fire Department arrived on the scene at 3:29 a.m. to find the house engulfed in flames with fire coming out the windows of the home, according to New Iberia Assistant Fire Chief Mark Dore.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.

- James A. Saizan, 25, 7365 Bocage Blvd., second-offense DWI and careless driving.
- Calvin Hatch Jr., 47, 8927 Framwood Drive, first-offense DWI, obstruction of a public highway and drinking in a motor vehicle.
- William Leonard Johnson, 45, 11888 Old Hammond Highway, first-offense DWI, failure to obey stop or yield sign, driving under suspension, motor vehicle inspection required and open container violation.
