Port Allen man dies after I-110 car crash
A 33-year-old Port Allen man died Thursday of injuries he suffered in a car crash on the Interstate 110 northbound exit ramp to Airline Highway, said Sgt. Don Kelly, a police spokesman.

Jeremy Borne, 2090 U.S. 190, was a passenger in the 1994 Saturn that crashed into the back of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt around midnight Wednesday, Kelly said.

Borne and the driver of the Saturn, Jason Cedotal, 21, 2090 U.S. 190, were taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Kelly said. Borne was pronounced dead at the hospital. Cedotal was still there late Thursday.

The Cobalt was driven by Celia Wayland 23, of Houston, Kelly said. Neither Wayland nor her passenger, a 3-year-old girl, was injured.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, Kelly said. An arrest could be made pending the results of blood tests.

Ex-constable worker arrested in thefts
A former Baton Rouge City Constable’s Office employee was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing money paid to the office’s garnishment department.

Rather than crediting the payments to the appropriate accounts, Catina Hayman, 34, kept the money and submitted falsified payment vouchers to the East Baton Rouge Parish Finance Department, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.

The finance department would then, unknowingly, issue checks based on false information, Hicks said. Those checks were drawn against Constable Office bank accounts and cost the office more than $28,000, an arrest warrant says.

The money was stolen between Oct. 10, 2007, and April 25, the warrant says.

Hayman, who was a fiscal specialist with the Constable’s Office, was hired in 1999 to accept payments from individuals who received civil garnishment judgments, the warrant says. She resigned from her position in April after being accused of falsifying her time sheets.

Hayman, 4912 Hillcrest Drive, Zachary, was booked into Parish Prison on 12 counts of injuring public records and one count each of malfeasance in office, theft and attempted theft.

Man booked with abusing wife, puppy
A 60-year-old man landed in jail Wednesday, accused of throwing a 3-week-old puppy across the room and battering his wife during an argument.

Howard T. Burgess Jr. threw the puppy across a room at 16905 Fir Ave. around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, an arrest warrant says. He is also accused of grabbing his wife of 12 years by the hair and forcing her out of the house.
