Official: Woman may have been strangled
A woman found dead in her New Iberia home Tuesday afternoon may have died from strangulation, an official said Wednesday.
Judy Landry, 61, was discovered inside her home in the 500 block of Robert S Drive in New Iberia.
Iberia Parish Coroner James Falterman Sr. said he expects his office to conduct an autopsy, and more details will be forthcoming.
The woman’s death was reported to authorities around 12:30 p.m. as Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal was being sworn into office.
Landry’s husband told police that he returned to the house on his lunch break and found his wife unresponsive inside.
A neighbor reported seeing nothing unusual as he left his mother’s home across the street.
The couple had moved to their home from Jeanerette several years earlier, a neighbor said Tuesday.
Sgt. Wendell Raborn, a spokesman for the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office, had no further information on the case Wednesday afternoon.
Ackal on Tuesday expressed his condolences to the family.
