Tangipahoa deputies arrest theft suspect
HAMMOND — Light coming from the interior of a vehicle helped bring about the arrest of a man on 18 counts of vehicle burglary at a transmission repair business, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office says in a release.
Deputies arrested Darrell Barze, 37, 903 E. Park Ave., Hammond, early Monday morning after a deputy spotted the light on inside a vehicle parked at All-Star Transmission near the Hammond airport, the release says.
When the deputy called out, Barze fled on foot into a wooded area but was later captured, according to the release.
The deputy later found that 18 vehicles had been burglarized, the release says.
In addition to the vehicle burglary counts, Barze was booked into Tangipahoa Parish Prison in Amite on flight from an officer, four counts of failure to appear in court and four counts of being a fugitive from the Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office, the release says.
Livingston Parish deputies have placed a hold on Barze and bond is pending on the Tangipahoa Parish counts, the release says.
