Hit-and-run suspect surrenders to police
A suspect in a Friday night hit-and-run wreck in Ascension Parish surrendered to authorities, Louisiana State Police reported Monday night.
On Sunday, Justin Viger, 27, French Settlement, was issued an arrest summons on charges of hit-and-run and careless operation, State Police spokesman Johnnie Brown said in a news release.
Late Friday night along La. 22 east of Airline Highway in Ascension Parish, Viger allegedly failed to stop his vehicle for motorcycle rider Mavis Courville, 45, of Prairieville, Brown said.
Both were westbound when Courville stopped his Harley-Davidson motorcycle to make a left turn into a private drive. Viger, driving a Ford Mustang, crashed into Courville, who was partially tossed from his motorcycle.
Then, Viger fled from the scene, traveling east on La. 22, Brown said.
Courville sustained minor injuries but declined to be transported, Brown said.
He added both drivers were wearing their respective safety devices and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash.
