Perrilloux fight video released
Fight led to players’ ouster
The Baton Rouge Police Department released surveillance tapes Wednesday showing the Oct. 26 fight outside The Varsity that led LSU coach Les Miles to bench former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and kick two other players off the team.
The blurry video shows a large scrum in the parking lot outside of the bar at 3353 Highland Road involving several people including patrons and club employees.
No one is easily distinguishable in the 10 minutes of video released by the Police Department, which starts at 2:16 a.m. and ends about 2:26 a.m.
Police said after their investigation was concluded at the end of October that the fight started in the club and spilled out into the parking lot.
No one was injured in the fight and no one wished to file a complaint, so no action was taken in the fight.
A later incident shown in more video released by the Police Department led to former LSU linebacker Derrick Odom being cited for simple criminal damage to property. The charges against Odom — the only person cited in the incident — were dropped last week after a witness failed to show up for court.
The video shows four people walking in the parking lot of the club about 3:30 a.m., minutes after a white vehicle parks and the driver leaves. The four people appear to check the doors of the club before one of them strikes the vehicle.
All four of the people then run out of the parking lot.
Miles kicked Odom and junior linebacker Jeremy Benton off the team after the Police Department’s investigation was concluded. Perrilloux was benched for the team’s game against the University of Alabama.
Odom said last week he had joined the football team at the University of Memphis.
Perrilloux was dismissed from the LSU team May 2 for unrelated reasons and signed on with Jacksonville State University in Alabama on May 14.
The video was released by the Police Department Wednesday in response to a public records request made by The Advocate.
The video is available for viewing on 2theadvocate.com.
