These guys put their lives on the line daily and the soon-to-be-well-paid legislature can't find the funds to pay them. What's wrong with this picture?

It is a shame that we cannot find the money to pay our firefighters and police officers who have full time jobs, and the legislature can give themselves a nice raise doubling their salary. The legislature needed a raise I think, but why not Tie it into teacher pay raises instead of the D.C. politicians. Do they not get enough raises to keep raising your salaries. Good ploy though, asking for triple and settling for double.

As I have said many times before--Louisiana has the finest politicians money can buy!!!! This is an example of why their pay raise should be put in the "round file!!" These jerks are all about themselves. They really NEED TO BE VOTED OUT!!!!!

Right on Winston, when election time rolls around vote them OUT!!!! Let them know that too!, you want the raise but you only gonna see it one time.

Isn't it amazing how they say they have to find a place for it in the budget and it would not have gone into effect until next year anyway-but what about them? Did they have to wait a year? Most police officers are forbidden from having another job, so they just have to make do with what they are paid. Yet our lawmakers all have other full time jobs, and now they have another full time income. Along with expenses and per diem of $134 per day, they are robbing us blind. How many of you get paid an extra $134 per day each day you show up to work? On top of your regular pay. Think about it. Our public servants, teachers, firefighters, police all deserve the same consideration.

Let us not forget about the $50.00 per meal cap that the lobbists can spend on them the legislators. It is so hard to get a lunch for under $50.00 any more!

What a shame. These men and women are simply asking for an extra $900 a year. Their jobs are crucial to our society, and yet they get nothing. But our super fabulous legislators need double their pay to make ends meet. Something is seriously wrong here.

I just think that this is a damn shame when you can not and will not give the people a raise that try to protect you and enforce the laws and try and keep you house from burning down. I have a nephew that is a cop and he has to work as a firefighter on the side to try and supplement his income as a cop and it is still not enough. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the legislators can give their selves a big fat hefty raise and they do not protect or defend anyone or anything they are just a bunch of CROOKS that are made fun of by the rest of the United States. SHAME, SHAME on you legislature and GOVENOR!!!!!!!!! Ya'll are pathetic.

I'm a full time and part time Professional Firefighter. I work 3 jobs and know a lot of my brother firefighters who work 4 and 5 jobs just to make ends meet. The legislators work 4-5 months out of the year and make almost double what I make! It just makes me sick to know that they can watch out for themselves and say, F&*@ everyone else. They are greedy and money hungry. It's not just at the state level, but the national level. All these lawmakers could pass laws to make the automakers build more fuel efficient cars, but the automakers are paying the lawmakers NOT to do it. It just makes me sick to see my brother firefighters sacrifice SOO many things just to make their families have it a little bit better and the "Lawmakers" make all their money for doing a job that a monkey could do.

What a slap in the face ! The legislature gives themselves a big fat raise and then can not have enough money for our vital police and fire officals ; so what if it did ot take affect till nex year , it would sure have soothed their minds to know they were appreciated and needed and it was coming. Where is our new Gov that is supposed to be trying to make politics look respectable and honest in Louisiana . All I can say to the Police and Firemen is I am sorry.

HOW SICK!!!!! These men and women risk their lives for us EVERY DAY and we can't pay them peanuts? BUT oh the legislature, who screws us every day, can DOUBLE their salary and receive a tax break in the form of a PER DIEM!!!!!!! I think I'd find someone else to protect! Thank you to the guys and girls that protect ME every day! Your time and dedication are VERY MUCH appreciated by the other little guys in this picture and you are priceless!

Well maybe we oculd get our overpaid congressmen to act as volunteer firefighter and policemen on their time off seeing as they just voted themselves a 200% raise. What a joke: pay the fatcats and ignore the people who protect us all on a daily basis.

What exactly do the tax payers get for the legistative raise (PART-TIME) versus law enforcement and fire fighters? Let's all do the math...its not rocket science. What a travesty to see that the law makers are more concerned with their wallets than the well being and safety of the citizens they represent. The law enforcement and fire fighters work very hard to make ends meet and a mere $900 is not enough are far as I am concerned. They should get their (FULL TIME) salaries doubled and maybe they wouldnt have to work 3 jobs to support the family. What a line of SH%#. Governor "Booby" you talked a good game and then present a blind eye. "I disagree but will not veto"...again my vote was wasted. Give Louisianians some credit we are not stupid. Take heed law makers and the like the voters will remember you at election time.

I agree they needed the pay raise but instead the good old boy's and girls decided to give themselves the money. I noticed one problem with the interview with Chief Bill Landry, he talked about the gas prices well most of the LE people are driving our cars and using our gas so that doesn't wash. I was at the Rave a few weeks ago to see a movie. A EBRSO unit pulled up in front of me and a guy and girl in street clothes got out and went into the movie. I paid for my gas and theirs.

This is so insane!!! My father has been a fire fighter for baton rouge for almost 20 years now and he has to work a part time job to support my mother and himself. I don't think you guys realize how much they need a payraise. My dad works 24 hour shifts running into burning buildings while others are running out and he spends his sleepless nights going to save people who have been shot or wrapped themselves around a tree and he never knows what will happen next. These guys went into this profession knowing the pay and they still chose to do it because they have a heart that is willing to help and save people in situations most would run from. These are our Heroes and they deserve a payraise based on that fact I am all for increasing someone's pay who is always there to help save my life no matter what. To our Firefighters and policemen you are always hero's in our world's eyes and no matter what don't ever forget that.

They knew the salary when they took the job. So why complain about the pay, if you want a more pay go get a job that pays more and the quit the complaining.

ploicewife what agency does let their officer work other jobs? Most officers I know work security details for local retailers, at sporting events and at after functions. So please don't say that they are not allow to work other jobs because that statement is a ball face LIE. Honest is always the best policy so don't go tell half truths because a half truth is just a LIE.

DDD You don't get it. Yes they did know the pay. The point happens to be that these people have earned the right and deserve a raise. It is about who earned it and deserves it not about whining DDD. I hope you remember that next time you need any of these protective services.

If you people would have heard the what was being reported or even read the title you would not be mad at the legislature but at the governor. The report says that the GOVERNOR was going to VETO the bill. The Governor was going to take some action on a bill instead of letting it become law. So stop talking about Senators they were going along with this raise also...it was the GOVERNOR WHO WAS GOING TO VETO IT.

All I have to say is all of congress is conrupted. Let's recall and get all of these crooked, pathetic, so call legislatures OUT! I say LET'S VOTE. The governor needs to go back to his family country and run for governor there. The legislatures need to go and get a JOB that will pay FULL TIME PAY and then they will see what PART TIME PAY looks like. Right now, everyone needs the pay the legislatures are getting (200%). Raise your hand Louisiana if you could use that pay. I have a master's degree, where's my 200%. I am so sorry, my hat goes off to the policemen and the firefighters. We know that you guys work and deserve a 400% raise. After all, if the legislatures can get 200%, we know you should get 400%. You have the REAL JOBS.

Oh... now Alario pulls a bill because he's worried about a VETO by the mighty Governor!!! That's kinda funny... since he wasn't worried enough to pull the pay raise bill because of a VETO. Winston you're right again; the best money can buy! I guess this is what we can expect though, when the last voter turnout was only 28% statewide. Really, who's going to vote them out if nobody goes to the poles? ...and they know it too.

This is for James who saw the EBRSO unit at rave!! No you didn't pay for that gas, the Deputy that got out of that car did!!! What you might not know is that all EBRSO Deputies that have units have to pay for gas each month so you can't use that as an excuse!!! This is just another slap in the face to us in Law Enforcement and Firefighters!!!

Nice work! When times are rough, take care of yourselves first! Police and Fire are the back bone of emergency response in our state...funny when I visited the capital this year, that work did not seem so bad. Especially in light of the fact that I could watch LSU baseball on the computer screen that was on every desk in the legislature. Typical LA politics... They should be ashamed, but at least we can sleep at night knowing that the people who govern us are doing well with their new raise! God bless them, because they are going to need it.
