A Lettsworth man died early Sunday after his car left the roadway and struck a tree in Pointe Coupee Parish, State Police Troop A spokesman Johnnie Brown said in a news release.
Joe Green Jr., 50, was traveling south on La. 1 at the intersection of La. 15 at 2:13 a.m. when his 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix left the roadway to the right, Brown said. Green then overcorrected, exiting the roadway to the left and striking a tree, Brown said.
Green, who was not wearing his seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, Brown said. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash.
Holden teenager dies in one-vehicle wreck
LACOMBE — A Holden teenager was killed Saturday night in a one-vehicle wreck when his eastbound pickup ran off Interstate 12 and crashed into a tree.
Jeramy Malcom Trent Sullivan, 18, was driving the 1996 Chevrolet pickup on I-12 about two miles east of La. 434 when it briefly ran off the road to the left, Louisiana State Police spokesman Trooper Louis Calato said in a news release.
Sullivan overcorrected, causing his pickup to cross the eastbound lanes and leave the right side of the roadway before crashing into a tree.
Sullivan, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, Calato said. Alcohol use is unknown at this time.
Fisherman missing south of Fourchon
NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard was searching Sunday for a 41-year-old man reported missing late Saturday off of a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Mexico.
The Coast Guard in New Orleans received a call at 9:50 p.m. Saturday from a crew member of the fishing vessel Carmelita, reporting that Dorn Williamson was missing 20 miles south of Fourchon.
Williamson was last seen wearing shorts and flip flops.
