Suspect, 20, arrested in Ascension shooting
BRITTANY — Deputies arrested a Gonzales man following a shooting in the Lake Park subdivision off La. 431 near Airline Highway, the Ascension Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday.
Mikhail Purpera, 20, accused of one count of illegal use of weapons and five counts of attempted first-degree murder in the incident, is being held in the Ascension Parish Jail on a $550,000 bond, according to a news release Sheriff Jeff Wiley issued.
About 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Purpera was talking to two people in a vehicle parked in front of Purpera’s home at 10165 Lake Park Ave., Wiley said.
Deputies said witnesses told them Purpera began firing at the people, who returned fire. Gunfire struck two occupied homes nearby, Wiley said.
A bullet just missed an 80-year-old woman sitting on a rocking chair on her front porch; another round went into a room where small children were playing, the sheriff said.
Wiley said detectives also are seeking the men in the vehicle. Witnesses said the men were driving a late model Pontiac Firebird, or similar vehicle.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office at (225) 621-4636 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
