Mother booked in smuggling try
A woman was arrested Sunday after security officials at Jetson Center for Youth found her allegedly trying to sneak marijuana concealed in her hair inside for her juvenile son, an affidavit of probable cause says.

Lavon Renae Kinchen, 38, 842 Peach St., was arrested about 1 p.m. and booked on counts of distribution or manufacture of marijuana, bringing contraband into a penal institution and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Duplex fire leaves $10,000 in damage
A fire that started Tuesday afternoon in or near a trash can in a kitchen at 229‰ Mary St. caused an estimated $10,000 in damage, the Fire Department  said.

The cause of the fire could not be determined after firefighters arrived at 2:37 p.m., Fire Department spokesman Robert Combs said.
The fire damage was contained to the kitchen and a room behind it with the rest of the duplex sustaining minor smoke and heat damage.

Authorities book 11 on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least 11 people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 3 p.m. Monday and 3 p.m. Wednesday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

  • Charles Ryan Napoli, 24, 1377 Miller Lake Road, Ville Platte, second-offense DWI, driver’s license suspended or revoked, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, resisting an officer and proof of insurance required.
  • Joe Louis Paredes, 25, 3005 Eikel Place, Corpus Christi, Texas, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Genaro Cruz Gomez, 26, 171 Hammond Manor, No. 3, second-offense DWI, hit-and-run, driver’s license not in possession and insurance required.
  • James Nicholas Billeaudeaux, 20, 40327 Abby James Road, Prairieville, second-offense DWI, failure to maintain control of a vehicle, driver’s license suspended or revoked, seat-belt violation and inspection sticker required.
  • Willie L. Johnson, 57, 4809 Sprucewood Court, Baker, first-offense DWI, failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and following too closely.
  • Gerald J. Nelson, 42, 16613 Hamilton Ave., first-offense DWI, following too closely, failure to maintain control of a vehicle and reckless operation of a vehicle.
  • Christy Lauren Adams, 27, 615 St. Louis St., No. 105, first-offense DWI, turns not allowed and motor vehicle inspection required.
  • Sherry Lee Robinson, 52, 9425 Deer Trail Ave., Zachary, first-offense DWI, failure to maintain control of a vehicle and insurance required.
  • Randal Keith Hoover, 45, 5168 Thibodeaux Road, Greenwell Springs, second-offense DWI and improper lane usage.
  • Daniel Allen Jones, 28, 34395 Woodland Trails, Denham Springs, first-offense DWI and disobeying a red light.
  • Martin J. Miller, 45, 655 Sharp Lane, No. 129, first-offense DWI, speeding, expired motor vehicle inspection and reckless operation of a vehicle.
