Children’s museum meetings slated
HAMMOND — Residents wanting to hear details of a proposed $5 million children’s museum in Hammond may attend one of two public meetings on Thursday.
The meetings, set for at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the City Council chambers, 312 E. Charles St., Hammond, will feature a presentation by Louisiana Children’s Discovery Museum’s consultant, William Greaves.
Greaves is to discuss possible exhibits and show the first conceptual rendering of the museum.
This will be the first look at the proposed 20,000-square-foot museum that is estimated to cost $5 million, Kathy Montecino, the museum board’s present and a city councilwoman, has said in previous interviews.
The museum already has five acres of land donated from the city on CM Fagan Drive and nearly $1 million in proceeds from video bingo revenues and grant donations.
Yet the museum also needs to do a capital fundraising campaign in order to attain enough money to build the facility, she has said.
