LSU officially picks Martin as chancellor
Michael V. Martin is officially the pick to become LSU’s next chancellor, university officials said.
The New Mexico State University president came to a final decision today with LSU System President John Lombardi after Martin further discussed the matter over the weekend with his family and NMSU officials, said Charles Zewe, LSU System vice president for communications.
Martin, 61, interviewed May 20 and May 21 at LSU as the sole finalist for the chancellor position.
Final terms of Martin’s contract should be finalized early this week, Zewe said.
Martin’s contract could be finalized as soon as Thursday by the LSU Board of Supervisors, Zewe said.
Lombardi previously hired Martin as a vice president at the University of Florida when Lombardi was president there.
Former LSU Chancellor Sean O’Keefe resigned in January after he said he lost support from Lombardi and much of the LSU board.
