Hammond man surrenders in Livingston case
MAUREPAS — A Hammond man wanted in a Tuesday evening shooting was arrested Wednesday after he surrendered to Livingston Parish sheriff’s deputies, authorities said.
Jerome Jones, also known as Jerome Irvin, 44, 910 S. Oak St., was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday only hours after deputies sought the public’s help in tracking him down.
Jones is accused of shooting Timothy M. Frazier, 42, three times with a .45-caliber handgun shortly before 7:05 p.m. Tuesday.
The shooting occurred at an abandoned mobile home along La. 22 near Maurepas, deputies said in a statement.
Witnesses on the scene have implicated Jones in the shooting, Deputy Perry Rushing, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said Wednesday. He said deputies found six or seven shell casings at the scene.
An acquaintance of Frazier’s was driving him to the hospital Tuesday evening when Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies intercepted the vehicle on La. 22 near the Amite River Diversion Canal.
The deputies transferred Frazier to an ambulance headed to a Baton Rouge-area hospital. He is expected to survive, Livingston Parish deputies said.
Frazier has a Kentucky driver’s license, Rushing said, but it is not clear whether Frazier is living in Louisiana.
Jones was booked into Livingston Parish Prison in Livingston with attempted second-degree murder, Rushing said in an e-mail. Jones’ bond was set at $500,000.
Deputies said earlier Wednesday that Jones was wanted on an attempted first-degree murder count.
