DONALDSONVILLE — Another five recent high school graduates from Ascension Parish have been linked to a vandalism outbreak at Donaldsonville High School, authorities reported, bringing the total number of arrests in the investigation to 10.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested four suspects Wednesday night and a fifth on Thursday, and the investigation is still under way, sheriff’s Chief Deputy Tony Bacala said.

The latest arrests bring the total number of people facing criminal prosecution to 10.

Those most recently arrested are:

  • Randell Williams, 18, no address given, Donaldsonville.
  • Brent Harris, 19, no address given, Donaldsonville.
  • Torianno Marshane Joshua, 17, no address given, Donaldsonville.
  • Hyram Ferchaud, 18, no address given, Donaldsonville.
  • Eric Gant, 18, no address given, White Castle.
On Tuesday, deputies arrested the first five men. Bacala identified them as:
  • Champlain Babin, 19, Donaldsonville.
  • Jarrod Doakes, a 2008 Donaldsonville High graduate, 19.
  • Darren Demby, a 2007 Donaldsonville High graduate, 18.
  • Donald Brown Sr., a 2008 Ascension Alternative High School graduate, 17.
  • Jonathon Jones, a 2007 Donaldsonville High graduate, 19.
Babin, Doakes, Demby, Brown and Jones were booked into the Ascension Parish Jail, then released on signature bonds.

Except for two, each is facing criminal charges of felony criminal damage to property, simple burglary and criminal trespass, Bacala said.

Joshua and Ferchaud are accused only of felony criminal damage to property and criminal trespass.

Eight of the 10 graduated from high schools in Ascension Parish this month. Demby and Jones are 2007 graduates.

Gant is the only one without a Donaldsonville residence; his was listed as White Castle.

A janitor arriving early Monday found broken glass and other evidence of vandalism at the Donaldsonville school. Sheriff’s detectives were called and they began asking for tips on the crime.

Initial estimates of the damage range between $7,500 and $10,000; more assessment is needed, school officials said Wednesday.
