Suspect extradited, booked in stabbing
Lawrence Payton, 43, was booked into Parish Prison on Tuesday in the stabbing death of 41-year-old Steven Cass.

Police issued an arrest warrant for Payton, 2229 Georgia St., on Sept. 29, the day of the killing, said Sgt. Don Kelly, a police spokesman.

Payton remained at large until last month when he was arrested April 14 on an open-container violation in Las Vegas, Kelly said. Payton was extradited to Baton Rouge on Tuesday and was booked on a count of second-degree murder.

Cass was stabbed at 1143 W. Garfield St. during an argument with Payton, police have said. He was taken to a hospital where he died from his wounds.

2 woman arrested in robbery of men
Two women were arrested Monday for allegedly participating in the armed robbery of two men on Gardere Lane.

Jayda Marie Shavers and Zada Mullins approached two men Saturday as they were driving away from a mobile home park at 2575 Gardere Lane, an arrest warrant says.

The women asked the men what they were doing as three other men walked out of a nearby wooded area, the warrant says.

One man grabbed the driver by the back of his shirt and walked him to his mobile home where he took $200, the warrant says. Another man inside the mobile home was robbed of $25, the warrant says.

Deputies arrested the women at Mullins’ home at 8571 Rush Ave., the warrant says.

Both women were booked into Parish Prison on a count of armed robbery.

The men involved in the armed robbery are still at large.

A 29-year-old man was arrested Sunday, accused of molesting a 10-year-old girl.
