Deputies book man with rape of girl, 11
A 35-year-old man was arrested Friday, accused of raping an 11-year-old girl, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The incident occurred while the suspect was watching the girl and two other juveniles at their home, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
The two other juveniles tried to help the girl but couldn’t because the door to the room where the girl and the suspect were was locked, Hicks said.
Roderick K. Grant, 7986 Videt Polk Drive, was booked into Parish Prison on one count of aggravated rape.
2 men, 2 juveniles arrested in burglaries
Two men and two juveniles were arrested Friday for allegedly burglarizing nine homes in Alsen Heights near Jetson Correction Center for Youth, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
The burglars would pawn or sell the items they stole, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman.
Patrick Ramirez, 27, 111 Gatebriar Ave., was booked into Parish Prison on nine counts of simple burglary, nine counts of theft and six counts of simple criminal damage to property.
An affidavit of probable cause says Ramirez paid young adults in the Alsen Heights subdivision to steal items for him that he would pawn or sell.
Jacoby D. Griffin, 326 Gatebriar Ave., was booked on three counts of simple burglary, three counts of theft and three counts of simple criminal damage to property.
The juveniles were placed in juvenile detention on nine counts of burglary.
Meat smoker heat causes restaurant fire
Heat from a meat smoker at Podnuh’s BBQ caused a fire at the restaurant Sunday, Baton Rouge firefighters said Monday.
Firefighters were called to the restaurant at 7026 Florida Blvd. at 9:19 p.m., said Robert Combs, a Fire Department spokesman. They had to force their way into the building because it was closed.
The fire was contained to a wall and ceiling near the meat cooker, Combs said. No one was hurt but the fire caused $20,000 worth of damage.
