LSU Web site wins Eppy
The Daily Reveille Web site, lsureveille.com, won a 2008 Eppy Award from Editor & Publisher magazine Thursday as the nation’s best collegiate Web site, said James E. Shelledy, a professor at LSU’s Manship School of Mass Communication.
The other two finalists were the student news Web sites at the University of Arizona and the University of Indiana, he said in an e-mail message.
Reveille editor Justin Fritscher of Mandeville and managing editor Kyle Whitfield of Metairie oversaw the push this year to add breaking news and video to the Web site’s content mix, Shelledy said.
In the final week of April, lsureveille.com became the most popular site recorded by College Publisher, a national hosting service for collegiate Wweb offerings. Page views approached a record 750,000 during that month, Shelledy said.
Under the general direction of Student Media Associate Director Pat Parish, The Reveille site underwent a radical change in direction and philosophy in the fall of 2006, with then-managing editor Marissa DeCuir of Marksville. By the following year, lsureveille.com was offering audio, video, photo galleries and breaking news on a routine basis.
