The first round of the rain-plagued Southwestern Athletic Conference will resume at 4 p.m. today at two fields, according to tournament co-director Cory Lima.

The Alcorn State-Prairie View game, which was suspended in the third inning Wednesday, is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. today at Lee-Hines Field, on Southern University's campus.

Meanwhile, Eastern Division champion Jackson State will play Texas Southern, the No. 4 seed from the Western Division, at 4 p.m. at Pete Goldsby Field in downtown Baton Rouge.

Southern, the Western Division champion, will play Alabama State, the No. 4 seed from the Eastern Division after the Alcorn-Prairie View game concludes at Lee-Hines Field.

Only one first-round game, Mississippi Valley State's 12-2 win over Grambling, was finished Wednesday.

The focus today is on completing the first round.

Friday, six games will be split between Southern and LSU's Alex Box Stadium. Elimination games will be played at The Box, Lima said.

Alcorn, the No. 2 seed from the Eastern Division, led two-time defending champion Prairie View 2-1 in the third inning when lightning flashed over the ballpark at 2:38 p.m. Wednesday. Prairie View is the Western Division's third seed.

Officials had hoped to begin play at 9 a.m. today, but heavy rain continued through the night and the morning, leaving Lee-Hines Field soaked until work could get under way around noon. They then originally targeted a 3 p.m. restart for all three games today at Lee-Hines Field, but getting Goldsby allowed officials more time to prepare both venues and start later.
