How any cars did the flooding downtown destroy this time?

Man these kids are such wusses nowadays. When I was a kid they didn't close school for a severe thunderstorm. They would barely close for a hurricane. If there was no power, we would have school by candlelight!

Kassim, We also didn't start school until we were in Kindergarten or 1st grade. Don't know about all these kids, but mine work alot harder in school than we did. It's okay by me if they get a Louisiana "snow day". Problem here is not thunderstorms - it's flooding. Hope everyone is hanging in there. This has been a rough 24 hours for some. We are lucky and ok in Mid-City, but I used to live in Central and have many friends and family members out there. Hope they are all okay.

Kassim, I was sooo thrilled when my child stepped off the school bus yesterday at my office on magnolia bridge in the hail and wind that moved my car , and that we made it home after an hour of obsticles in our way...so no one is being a wuss...and it sounds like you havent been out of school to long yourself to make a comment like that.....Our bus drivers in central will not face danger if not necessary!we are better than that...we care!

Sounds Kassism just wants a little attention. And he or she needed to be standing out in the middle of the storm to get a little taste of what people had to go through. Some of my friends and family could not even get home and also some in Watson had water going into their homes. It's really sad how some people are so selfish and doesn't have a heart.

Kassim R must also not be a parent to say something as hateful as that!! As a mother of 2 & we live in Denham Springs I support the school board. Our neighborhood is under water, so would I want to risk the teachers, administration, bus drivers & students lives trying to get them to school...let's see that would be a NO!! Dude when you become a parent than you can comment!

I agree ladies! Yesterday afternoon and this morning were very rough! My children attend school in West Baton Rouge Parish and they didn't cancel school today even though the teachers were mopping up water that flooded the hallways! Those teachers and staff had to risk driving through the horrible storm to get to work and have to clean up from a flood. No one from the school board office even came by the school until after 9 am to check things out. When I arrived at school this morning and saw all the water I brought my children back home to prevent further risk.

If I can go to work the studnets and the teachers can go to school. This is Louisiana we have storms all the time, I bet you if this was an LSU game it would not a have been cancelled and people would have been sitting in the st ands watching the game.

Wow! What a mess!! This weather is can be crazy indeed! Does anyone know if the Magnolia Bridge area flooded? I'm a former Watson resident now living in Green Bay, WI. Whoever said something about the "Louisiana Snowday" hit it on the head!!! I now know why snowday's exist!!

I was in tears this morning when a mom called the radio station talking about the central schools being closed and things being so disrupted yesterday afternoon that she did not know where her children were until after 6 pm because the busses had been ordered to stop until the weather abated. I would have preferred to have kept my kids home today rather than taking them to school. In addition to snow days, sometimes the schools up north start a couple of hours late to give the roads time to thaw or be sanded or whatever. It seems like that would have been a good thing to do today.

Our city is in repair mode ...and half of the schools are damaged and not safe until clean up! Thats why our great city deemed it necessary to clean up first!

Central was hit pretty hard. From what I understand ALL Central schools will remain closed until further notice. What I do not understand is this week was for the kids to get ready for the exams.... Next week is EXAM week and the students do not have all the materials. I know Central will do what it needs to get it back together. We are a proud CITY and we all care about each other. Everyone is in my prayers. God Bless
