Iberville deputy shoots BR man in leg
A man accused of stealing a laptop computer from an Iberville Parish deputy sheriff’s cruiser was shot in the leg as the deputy tried to detain him.
Kevin Lebray, 38, of Baton Rouge, was arrested by police officers at noon Monday after he allegedly broke into the deputy’s car earlier that morning in Baton Rouge, Police Department spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said.
A witness who observed the break-in gave police a description of the suspect.
The deputy, Steven Johnson, spotted Lebray walking in the 11900 block of North Little John Drive and stopped him for questioning, McKneely said.
Lebray allegedly resisted and began to reach into his pocket for a bulging object — later identified as a rolled up belt. Johnson fired one shot, striking Lebray in the leg.
Lebray was taken to a hospital with a non-life threatening wound and upon his release will be booked on counts of burglary of a vehicle and resisting arrest, McKneely said.
The laptop was recovered at the scene of the shooting.
44-year-old man booked in sex assault
Police arrested a 44-year-old man accused of prying open the mouth and kissing a 6-year-old girl on several occasions.
Eric Ray Nonette was arrested Friday after the girl reported the most-recent incident to a guidance counselor and school principal, an arrest warrant says. Nonette, who lives in the 9000 block of West Havana Drive, was booked into Parish Prison on a sexual assault count.
Deputies arrest man in bizarre break-in
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man accused of breaking into a the house of neighbor who returned home at 5 a.m. Sunday to allegedly find him masturbating on her couch while watching the movie “Legends of the Fall,” an affidavit of probable cause says.
The woman text-messaged a male friend who arrived and told the intruder to leave, the affidavit says.
Police later that day questioned Jason Dylan Jones, 30, 17428 Deer Lake Ave., at his home and then booked him into Parish Prison on counts of unauthorized entry into an inhabited dwelling and simple rape from an earlier incident, booking records show.
Chase yields drugs; Ga. man arrested
A Georgia man was arrested Sunday morning when a Louisiana State Police trooper stopped him after a 3-mile chase and found 200 pounds of marijuana in the back seat of the car.
