Two die in accident in Pointe Coupee
Two people were killed early Sunday in a head-on collision in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana State Police said.
A 1990 Oldsmobile driving west on La. 420 failed to stop at the intersection of La. 1, pulling into the path of a 2003 Ford pickup truck at around 3:15 a.m., State Police spokesman Trooper Johnnie Brown said.
The Oldsmobile’s driver, Norma Battley, 29, and passenger, Leanora M. Carter, 18, both of Baton Rouge, were pronounced dead at the scene by the parish Coroner’s Office, Brown said. Neither was wearing seat belts, he said.
Paramedics took the driver of the Ford, Charles W. Moras, 56, of Mansura, to Pointe Coupee Parish Hospital with moderate injuries, Brown said. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, he said.
