JACKSON — More than 300 Dixon Correctional Institute inmates nearing release participated in a May 1 Resource Fair with private employers and state and community agencies.

The event, part of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections’ Re-Entry Initiative, gave inmates within one year of release a chance to initiate contact with potential employers and agencies that assist with housing, food, clothing, education and substance abuse treatment.

Inmates completed job applications and handed out personal résumés to prospective employers.

Many of them also applied to community and faith-based programs that provide transitional services, a DCI news release said.
Businesses offering employment opportunities included Northrup Grumman, J.L. Carter Construction Group, BOH Brothers Construction, SHAW, Stupp Corp., T.T. Barge Services, The Toepfer Group, PEC/Premier, WillStaff Worldwide, Link Staffing Services, and Advantage Personnel.

“It is good to see these agencies and businesses from the private sector become involved by providing desperately needed transitional services and offering good-paying, steady jobs to ex-offenders. I am glad that employers have come to realize that most ex-offenders become excellent hard-working employees,” Warden Steve Rader said.
