I-10 Eastbound in Ascension snarled due to accident
Traffic on Interstate 10 eastbound was snarled for several hours today from an accident that closed eastbound lanes. Traffic is still moving slowly, but beginning to clear.
At 11:56 AM, today Louisiana State Police - Troop A responded to a one vehicle crash that closed eastbound lanes until 3:30 p.m.
The crash occurred on Interstate 10 east of Highland Road in Ascension Parish.
A Toyota Scion traveled east on I-10 and exited the roadway to the left. The Toyota traveled beyond the median and struck a tree.
The impact forced the Toyota to the right (towards the highway) and threw the engine across the highway.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development was called to bring sand as liquids from the engine covered the roadway.
Eronda Simon, 34, of Baton Rouge, sustained minor injuries and was transported by Acadian Ambulance to Baton Rouge General Medical Center on Bluebonnet.
Simon was charged with Careless Operation.
