Five teens booked in school break-ins
LORANGER — Tangipahoa Parish sheriff’s deputies arrested five teens in the burglaries of three Loranger public schools dating to early November, deputies said Wednesday.
Two of the five teens were taken into custody Tuesday after an investigation into the burglary of Loranger Middle School’s offices reported Monday, deputies said in a statement.
Four of the five teens are Loranger High School students, Chief Criminal Deputy Dennis Pevey said, although he said he was not sure which of the five was not.
He said all the teens cooperated with investigators and the missing items were recovered, including a drill, an engine, cell phones and $400 worth of concessions candy.
Carthan Engram, 18, 16174 E. Cooper Road, Loranger, and an unidentified Loranger 15-year-old were arrested and booked on single counts of burglary of the middle school, police and jail officials said.
Arrests earlier this month stemmed from burglaries of the Loranger High School agriculture building and a Loranger Elementary School storage shed where the candy was kept, police said.
Tools and equipment valued at $5,550 were taken from the agriculture building Nov. 5 and Dec. 3, police said. The elementary school storage shed burglary was reported April 18, police said.
Blake Burns, 17, 17510 E. Bell Road, Amite, was booked on two counts of burglary from the high school.
Russell Easley, 17, 55272 Easley Road, Loranger, was booked on three counts of burglary from the high and elementary schools.
Robert Granat, 17, 64255 V. Lambert Road, Loranger, was booked on a count of burglary of the elementary school.
Pevey said investigators do not believe the middle school burglary is connected to the high school and elementary school burglaries.
All five teens have been released, Pevey said.
